Western Blot Data Analysis

In order for the results of a western blot to be useful, to major things must be true:

  1. The film must be correctly underexposed.
  2. You must be able to make relative comparisons between the bands.

You’ll notice that the second condition necessarily depends on the first comparison. So we’ve included a brief discussion how to correctly expose your western blots to film here:

Relative comparisons between western blot samples are critical, and we can use “densitometry” to help us make our comparisons relatively quantitative.
